Membership of the Committee

The Committee on Migrant Workers is currently composed of 10 independent experts who are persons of high moral character, impartiality and recognized competence in the field covered by the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families. Under article 72 (1) (b), membership of the Committee will increase to fourteen experts once the Convention has forty-one States parties.

Members are elected for a term of four years by States parties in accordance with article 72 of the Convention. Members serve in their personal capacity and may be re-elected if nominated.

The next meeting of States parties will be held in New York in December 2009 to elect members to replace the five current members whose terms expire on 31 December 2009.
