According to the ‘World Report on Disability,’ more than one billion people, or about 15 percent of the world's population, live with some form of disability. This figure is projected to increase due to aging populations, the growing incidence of chronic health conditions associated with disability and other factors such as road traffic accidents, emergencies and disasters.
The figure shows men and women with and without disabilities amidst two building. All the buildings and figures are interconnected by semi-circular lines.
The infographic represents the connections built by the UNPRPD between people with and without disabilities and between persons with disabilities and their communities.
These 3 round figures describe key actors of the UNPRPD interventions.
The figure at the left shows an establishment in form of a house and represents the duty bearers. The figure in the middle shows persons with physical disabilities and other types of disabilities. They represent the rights holders. The rightmost figure shows a pentagon, where all the angles are joined with each other through white lines, depicting various partners and their relations.
These 3 round figures represent the levers of change of the PRPD.
The left figure shows paper and pen and something being written on them which depicts the laws. This represents the normative environment. The 2nd figure in the middle shows a big circle where 3 small hollow circles are around and a white small round figure in the centre of the circle are present, depicting coalition-building. The right figure is also a big circle, where 3 small hollow circles are around and a small white box in the centre of the circle are present, depicting capacity strengthening.
The figure shows the outcomes of the UNPRPD. A globe is being hold at below left corner depicting ‘Global level’ and a small white circle is being hold at below right corner depicting ‘Regional level’. 2 curved arrows from these 2 levels are pointed towards ‘Country level’ where a pointer is being hold indicating country level. These outcomes are then then united under systemic change which is shown in a layout of 5 red rectangular boxes and 2 white rectangular boxes on the top and the bottom.
This broad circular layout depicts the comparative advantages of the UNPRPD.
One such feature at top left of the layout, shows a written piece of paper with a red seal mark at bottom right corner of the paper, denoting normative and operational mandate of the UN system. At top right corner, a graphic representation is present, showing transparent and efficient steps to manage funding. The figure at the bottom right corner shows 3 droplets under a dotted shade in shape of an umbrella depicting the promotion of countrywide partnership-building. The figure at bottom left corner shows UN logo in the middle of a circle and few dotted circular lines are around it, depicting promotion of ‘One UN’ approach to disability rights. All these features are interrelated with each other, shown through circular dotted lines.
This broad layout depicts how the Country Projects are selected through an extensive process. At first “Donors Contributions” go to “Pooled Fund”. Then this “Pooled Fund” grows to “Country Funding Round”. All these funds come down to “UN Country Teams” and their partners “Governments”, “Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)”, “Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (DPOs)” and “Other Partners”. This partnership at country level then submits proposals which are evaluated by an “External Review” under the coordination of the Technical Secretariat”. After thorough assessment of the proposals, decision is made by governing bodies “Management Committee” and “Policy Board” consisting of “UN Organizations”, “DPOs”, “CSOs” and “Donors”.
