Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent
Country Visits
Pursuant to the mandate established by the Commission on Human Rights, the Working Group on People of African Descent has decided at its 4 th session (E/CN.4/2005/21, par 98) to undertake country visits. Field missions are useful in facilitating the Working Group's in-depth understanding of the situation of people of African descent in various regions of the world and in enabling it to familiarize himself with the actual situation in a particular country through access to first-hand information and discussions with the parties concerned, whether the Government or civil society. Such missions are in no case designed to be inquisitorial; rather, they can enable the measures taken by a Government to for the elimination of racial discrimination against people of African descent to be better known.
