OHCHR Principles and Guidelines for a Human Rights Approach to Poverty Reduction Strategies

These guidelines were developed, at the request of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, to explore and articulate a human rights approach to poverty reduction. The Guidelines were designed as a tool for policy-makers and practitioners involved in the development and implementation of poverty reduction strategies, to support efforts towards inclusive and participatory poverty reduction strategies and sustainable and equitable poverty reduction outcomes.

Summary of the OHCHR Draft Guidelines on a Human Rights Approach to Poverty Reduction Strategies

A summary of the 2002 draft of this document, funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation, was finalized in the first quarter of 2004.

Human Rights and Poverty Reduction: A Conceptual Framework

In March 2004, to complement the draft guidelines, OHCHR issued a publication entitled Human Rights and Poverty Reduction: A Conceptual Framework [ English ¦ French ¦ Spanish ]. This publication is a handy reference which explores and articulates the key features of a human rights approach to poverty reduction.
