The Commission on Human Rights

In 1998-1999, Working group of intergovernmental experts on the human rights of migrants E/CN.4/1999/80, E/CN.4/AC.46/1998/5 (working paper), E/CN.4/1998/76

In 1999, the Commission on Human Rights established the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants- renewed for another three years in 2002 and again in 2005.

In 2004, the Commission on Human Rights further created the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on Trafficking.
The Sub-Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights

In 2003, the Special Rapporteur of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, Mr. Weissbrodt, presented a final report on the human rights of non-citizens in 2003. E/CN.4/Sub.2/2003/23

- Dissemination of the Convention through publications and leaflets ( Morocco)
- Organizations of round tables and panels in cooperation with National Human Rights Institutions
- Human Rights Training of immigration police officers (Timor Leste)
- Assessment of migration laws compliance with international and human rights standards (BiH)
- OHCHR implements a comprehensive project on Trafficking
- Through the BiH field office, OHCHR’s trafficking related work in Eastern Europe has many model good practices to offer including a collaborative ten country study on trafficking in the region
- Monitoring the situation of DRC migrant workers deported from Angola ( Angola and DRC)
- Participation in UN Trafficking Working Groups at country level
- Other OHCHR programmes and activities have dealt with the human rights dimension of migration such as the Durban Follow-up Programme and the Human Rights and Counter-Terrorism Programme.
