Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers
Country Visits
An important part of the work of the Special Rapporteur is the conducting of country visits to assess in greater detail the situation of the judiciary and the wider legal system and, where appropriate, to make recommendations for its improvement.
A country visit can be initiated in two ways: through a request by the Special Rapporteur to the Government concerned to visit or by a Government directly inviting the Special Rapporteur. In both cases, the Government’s consent must be given before the mission takes place.
Reports on the missions are presented to the annual session of the Commission on Human Rights as addenda to the main annual reports.
