Date and venue
The Third Consultative Meeting on the "Principles and Guidelines" will be held on 29/30 September and 1 October 2004 (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) in Conference Room VII of the Palais des Nations in Geneva .
The meeting will be held pursuant to the Commission on Human Rights resolution 2004/34 which requested the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights "to hold, with the cooperation of interested Governments, a third consultative meeting for all interested Member States, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations ., with a view to finalizing the "Basic principles and guidelines on the right to a remedy and reparations for victims of violations of international human rights and humanitarian law" and if appropriate, to consider options for the adoption of these principles and guidelines."
As one of the bases for its work, the meeting will have the revised version of the principles and Guidelines (5 August 2004) prepared by the Chairperson-Rapporteur of the consultative meetings, Mr. Alejandro Salinas, in consultation with the independent expert, Mr. Theo van Boven and Mr. Cherif Bassiouni.
2. Participation and accreditation
The Third Consultative Meeting will be open to all interested Member States , intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council. To participate, a request for accreditation should be sent to Ms. Kate Hardie, Secretariat of the Commission on Human Rights, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Room PW 1-036, Palais des Nations, 8-14 Avenue de la Paix, CH-1211 Geneva 10 ( Tel .: +41-22-917 92 56; Fax : +41-22-917 90 59; E-mail : khardie@ohchr.org ).
Participants who have submitted their accreditation request will need to bring their passport or similar picture identification to the accreditation office located at the Villa "Les Feuillantines", 13 Avenue de la Paix (Opening hours. 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.) as from Wednesday, 29 September 2004, to receive their badge to enter the UN complex. Participants who already have a valid UN pass are exempted from this procedure.
All participants are kindly requested to fill in the orange-colored conference registration form upon arrival at the meeting. Copies of the form will be available in Conference Room VII.
