Search Tips

Basic Search
Use the Basic Search when you know exactly what you want. (Type your search criteria in the text box and click on the Find button. The result of your search will be listed in the same way as any of the major search engines found on the web.)

Categorized Search
Use the Categorized Search when you are looking for a series of documents for a particular category. Categories available are Body, Session, Country, Subject, Mandate, Symbol Number. (Click on the down arrow alongside a category and select an item in the category, make multiple selections if necessary, and click on the Search button. The result of your search will be displayed in table format. Most documents are available in the six UN official languages.)

Charter-based Bodies Database
Documents issued by the General Assembly, the Commission and the Sub-Commission, ECOSOC and the Security Council are stored in the Charter-based Bodies Database. The documents in this database can be easily found in the Categorized Search.

Treaty Bodies Database
Documents issued by the six monitoring committees are stored in the Treaty Bodies Database. The documents in this database will be supported by the Categorized Search before the end of 2004. (The web interface to the database exists only in English, but most documents are also available in French and Spanish.)
