Pursuant to its decision 9/102, the Human Rights Council will convene on 12 December 2008 a one-day session to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The session, comprising of a general segment in the morning and a high-level segment in the afternoon, will take place in the newly-inaugurated Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room (Salle XX).
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, the High Commissioner for Human Rights and a number of high-level dignataries will address the session, which will offer a platform to present national, regional and international initiatives launched on the occasion of the anniversary. Civil society representatives will also participate in the event.
