Committee Against Torture - Membership
The Committee Against Torture is composed of 10 independent experts who are persons of high moral character and recognized competence in the field of human rights.
Members are elected for a term of four years by States parties in accordance with article 17 of the Convention Against Torture. Members serve in their personal capacity and may be re-elected if nominated.
The meeting of States parties took place in Geneva on 8 October 2007 to elect members to replace the five current members whose terms expired on 31 December 2007.
