Meeting of States parties

12th Meeting of States parties (Geneva, 13 October 2009): election of members to replace the five current members whose terms expire on 31 December 2009

The Committee against Torture is composed of 10 independent experts who are persons of high moral character and recognized competence in the field of human rights.

Members are elected for a term of four years by States parties in accordance with article 17 of the Convention against Torture. Members serve in their personal capacity and may be re-elected if renominated.

A meeting of States parties will take place in Geneva on 13 October 2009 to elect members to replace the five current members whose terms expired on 31 December 2009.

States parties to the Convention were invited to nominate their candidates by 27 July 2009.
